[Below: This strange image is based on a story called the 'Town Musicians of Bremen' and was first published in 1819 by the Brothers Grimm. The story goes like this:
'It tells the story of four ageing domestic animals, who after a lifetime of hard work are neglected and mistreated by their former masters. Eventually, they decide to run away and become town musicians in the city of Bremen.
Contrary to the story's title the characters never arrive in Bremen, as they succeed in tricking and scaring off a band of robbers, capturing their spoils, and moving into their house.'

Today there is a large bronze statue in Bremen of the 'Town Musicians of Bremen'.]

[Below: Postcard reverse. This was canceled in Bremen on January 9, 1934.]

[Below: Here is an envelope with the special cancel. Unfortunately we can't really see the top of the cancel where the rooster is located. It was postmarked in Bremen on February 9, 1939. The two different postage stamps are connected, this is called a 'Zusammendrucke', or se-tenant pair.]

[Below: This is a Winterhilfswerk (Winter Relief of the German People) donation pin. Why is the dog on the bottom, with the donkey standing on him? Strange they got this out of order...]
