• Far from complete, and definitely in no particular order, here are some of our favorite albums from artists of many genres and time periods. Some may be very known to you, maybe you also listened to a lot of these same bands while growing up, as we did. The crazy excitement of youth and the aching boredom, some of these were a soundtrack to our teenage years. Through the reckless parties, sex, violence, and all the tainted fruits of life. Others carried us into our work with Mourning the Ancient, some of these bands we've even come to know personally or have had the opportunity to interview. Others we might not have liked as much, except for maybe they played during certain times in our lives, they 'grew' on us as they say. I'm sure you have more than a few favorites like this too.

As you may estimate, this is a huge undertaking, so we'll be adding more and more material every update. Hopefully, there will be some gem here that had slipped by you, and through these pages, you discover musical treasure as we have.

  • Deicide

    Title: Self titled

    Label: R/C

    Date: 1990

Track listing: (favorites marked with an '*')

    [1] Lunatic of God's Creation
    [2] Sacrificial Suicide
    [3] Oblivious to Evil
    [4] Dead by Dawn
    [5] Blaspherereion
    [6] Deicide
[7] Carnage in the Temple of the Damned
    [8] Mephistopheles
    [9] Day of Darkness
    [10] Crucifixation

[OK, so Glen Benton didn't kill himself as promised at 33, the age Christ died. This was still the beginning of a legend in death metal. This first release is one of those rare releases where nearly every track is a good one. Back in 1990 this was as cool as anything anyone had ever heard, and it still holds up nicely today.]

  • Deicide

    Title: Amon: Feasting the Beast

    Label: Roadrunner Records

    Date: 1993

Track listing: (favorites marked with an '*')

    [1] Lunatic of God's Creation
    [2] Sacrificial Suicide
    [3] Crucifixation
[4] Carnage in the Temple of the Damned

    [6] Blaspherereion
    [7] Feasting the Beast (intro)
    [8] Sacrificial Suicide
    [9] Day of Darkness
    [10] Oblivious to Nothing

[Before Deicide was called Deicide, they were known as 'Amon'. This CD reproduced the tracks from Amon's two demos, 'Sacrificial' (1989) and 'Feasting the Beast' (1987). The latter demo 'Feasting the Beast' shows Glen's vocals sounding amazingly dark and brutal, a style only found here.]

    [8] The Meetings
    [9] Insanity
    [10] 1642 Imprisonment
    [11] The Curse

[Although 'The Eye' didn't continue the story of 'King' from 'Conspiracy', much to the dismay of many, it proved to be another masterful work. Tracks like 'Two Little Girls' were amongst the best work ever by King Diamond.]

[Before Pardise Lost changed their style and sound completely, they released Lost Paradise, which was a very cool death metal album. The song 'Our Savior' is classic.
    "Where is your God now?"

    [6] Gdzie milczy Kazdy Cien

[There is only one Hefeystos track that I really like and that is 'Magiczny strumien', an awesome song, especially compared to the rest of the material. The female vocals (sung in Polish) are superb, as is the accompanying music. However, their next album lost my interest altogether.]
