[#1098]

  • Booklet

Note: This is a 2015 reprint of the 1940 work 'Wofür kämpft der deutsche Soldat' by Dr. Hanns Landes. A very cool work translated from German to English for the first time.

Note: This postcard was sent to the "Kenya Colony" of Lamu in British Africa, from Middelkerke, Belgium, postmarked in late 1923 and arriving on January 5, 1924. It's interesting that it doesn't use a stamp, instead it says 'zegel op beeldzijde' (seal on the image side), is this referring to the weak cancel on the other side? And I have no clue what 'Code Globus - Adelaide - Daisy - Gisela'.

This postcard was shows the Calle de la Marina, an historic, bustling street located in the heart of Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife, Canary Islands. The Alameda is a historic public garden. This was canceled in La Orotava, a historic town and municipality in northern Tenerife. It was postmarked again on August 28, 1909 after reaching Forçados, a small town in Southern Nigeria. This city has a rich history: 'Forçados and neighbouring Burutu played a significant role in slave trade era. The Portuguese built a slave dungeon in 1475, where slaves were kept before being exported to Europe and America. The Forçados slave wharf is one of the longest in Africa; it was built by the Portuguese in 1472...

[Above: Here is an interesting Chinese stamp. The base stamp (without overprint) is a 1927 Chinese revenue stamp from Zhejiang Province, Shaoxing City Gate. The swastika overprint was done in 1930.]

[Above: 1900 Paris Universal Exposition advertising stamps. Each stamp represents a different event. These were also available in blue (below).]

[Above: 1894 American postcard canceled in Philadelphia on October 26th and received in Oaklyn, New Jersey the next day.]

[Above: Now to the reverse. WTF? 'We will made the 1/2 car of Egg a gondola as you request-Will again urge Ebert's Packer Coal'. What is the hell was this Hollingshead up to???]

[Above: Collecting postage stamps has always been about creating an attractive design that would sell well. Here the Republique Centrafricaine (Central African Republic) uses nudity. These stamps were probably never on sale withing the country, instead they are often sold to the international market. Sometimes even the countries are made up to sell stamps.]
