• Very little is known of American Waffen-SS volunteers, but we have the names and information of eight of these men.
    As far is known, they were recuited from P.O.W. camps to fight against communism with the Waffen-SS.
    Unfortunately, all of those known below died in service.

  • Beneschan, Andy, (no private information known). He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on April 16, 1945 in Bosnia

  • Braschwitz, Charles, born August 17, 1922 in Buffalo, New York. He served with the Waffen-SS as a Polizei Wachtmeister. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on May 7, 1945 in Laibach, Slovenia

  • Diel, Lucas, born December 28, 1912 in New York. He served with the Waffen-SS as a SS-Rottenfuhrer. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on December 9, 1944 in Hungary.

  • Hauser, Andreas, born August 30, 1893 in Los Angeles, California. He served with the Waffen-SS as a SS-Sturmann. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on January 18, 1945 in Welikij, Ukraine.

  • MacDonald, Charles, born May 7, 1922 in Buffalo, New York. He served with the Waffen-SS. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on March 14, 1944 near Johvi, Estonia.

  • Mattedi, Francesco, (no private information known). He served with the Italian Waffen-SS. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on April 30, 1944 in Nettunia, Italy.

  • Peter, Edwin/Erwin, born March 12, 1918 in New York. He served with the Waffen-SS as an SS-Oberscharfuhrer. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on July 2, 1941 in Latvia.

  • Rommelspacher, Raymond George, born May 30, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He served with the Waffen-SS as an SS-Grenadier. He was killed in service to humanity in the war against communism on October 6, 1944 in Normandy, France.

  • There were also many German-Americans who chose to return to their homeland to defend it against communism. Among those known are:

    Josef Awender, born in Philadelphia in 1913. He served in the Waffen-SS as an SS-Hauptsturmführer. He was a medical doctor in the SS ‘Frundsberg’ Division.

    Robert Beimes, born in San Francisco in 1919. He served in the Waffen-SS as an SS-Untersturmführer. He worked as a signal officer in the SS ‘Hitlerjugend’ Division. His father is recorded as a translator in the SD.

    Eldon Walli, born in New York City in 1913. He served in the Waffen-SS as an SS-Hauptsturmführer. He worked in the SS-Kriegsberichter Abteilung, which were war reporters.

    Paul Winckler-Theede, born in New York City in 1912. He served in the Waffen-SS as an SS-Hauptsturmführer. He worked as a military judge in the SS ‘Das Reich’ Division.
