John Amery was born on March 14, 1912. The British Free Corps, originally called 'The Legion of St. George', was his brainchild. In the spring of 1943 he finished a book called 'England Faces Europe'. He also was the author of pamphlets directed toward British and other commonwealth P.O.W.'s held in Germany. BRITISH NATIONAL REPRESENTATION
PROCLAMATION TO ALL BRITISH SUBJECTS INTERNED

FELLOW COUNTRYMEN: 150,000 of our fellow countrymen are in prison in the home country, because they have declared themselves against this fratricidal war. In violation of the Habeas Corpus Act and the fundamental laws of our constitution these men have never been brought to trial or even allowed to see a lawyer.
American troops have not only occupied Ulster but are arriving in increasing numbers in England.
Naval bases and Colonies have been handed over to Mr. Roosevelt's administration.
BEYOND ALL THIS
This war has ceased to be a war of nations but has become a war of
CONCEPTION
Europe and our country, your wives and children at home are menaced by the invasion of the HORDES OF BOLCHEVICK BARBARITY.
For this reason I have approached the German Government with the proposal to form A BRITISH LEGION AGAINST BOLCHEVISM,
to be known as the LEGION of ST GEORGE.
I appeal to all Britishers to answer this call to arms for the defense of all the principles that we Englishmen have been the first to proclaim in the world.
THE DEFENCE OF OUR HOMES, OF OUR CHILDREN AND OF ALL CIVILISATION AGAINST THE DRAGON OF ASIATIC AND JEWISH BESTIALITY.
The St George Legion will fight only against the Communists and on NO OTHER FRONT!
All men will commence in their present rank and promotion will be open to all men alike, without any distinctions or qualification, political or otherwise.
Within the limits of the military possibilities the Legion of St George will fight at the junction of the German-Finnish front, beside the troops of the undaunted liberty loving Finnish people.
The British Representative in Berlin formally guarantees to all ranks: A PERMANENT WELL PLACED JOB IN BRITISH ADMINISTRATION OR PRIORITY IN ANY OTHER EMPLOYMENT THEY SHOULD DESIRE ONCE PEACE IS SIGNED, OR THE POSSIBILITY TO FORM THE ELITE IN THE NEW BRITISH ARMY.
Hundreds of soldiers have volunteered to join this Legion.
Men who have escaped to England have come to join us.
Three Royal Airforce aeroplanes have come over to us so far with their arms and equipment.
It is up to you civilians to give a hand to show that we intend to take our responsibilities to maintain THE INTEGRITY OF OUR EMPIRE, by giving the world proof that we have not all sold out to the JEW OR PLUTOCRAT.
I ASK YOU TO OPT NATIONAL
The British Representation which is 100% British organisation will take no steps whatever of intimidation against the persons who do not opt, BUT fellow countrymen the world is watching us, EUROPE EXPECTS THAT EVERY CIVILISED MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY, National England desires that you will show yourselves worthy of Nelson's immortal signal:

We shall show the world that free Englishmen:
NEVER, NEVER WILL BE THE SLAVES OF A JEWISH PLUTOCRATIC TYRANNY, THAT WE ARE WORTHY DESCENDANTS OF THE YEOMEN THAT DICTATED THE MAGNA CARTA.
Pay no attention to waverings or opposition: the first to opt will be the examples of bravery and courage to those that now waver or are against us but who will have to join us one day when they realise the truth.
In these fatal days when we are before the bar of civilisation: I beg, I demand, that you put aside all hesitations, all the prejudice, all the lies that have led you where you are... that you take this IMMENSE OPPORTUNITY THAT I HAVE OBTAINED AND WITH ME, WITH ALL THOSE THAT HAVE ALREADY JOINED.

John Amery

  • In November 1943, after returning from a speaking engagement in Belgrade with Serbian Fascists, Amery returned to Berlin in time to be caught in a massive Allied air raid. The hotel where he has been staying, the Kaiserhof Hotel, was destroyed, along with all of his belongings. He courageously joined in the rescue efforts and received a German medal for bravery.

  • In the first few months of 1944 Amery went on a speaking tour to Czechoslovakia, Norway, Belgium and France. Later that year, in September 1944, he received an invitation from Mussolini to visit him at his Lake Garde headquarters. Mussolini wanted to broker peace between the Allies and the Axis, and enlisted Amery's talents in this attempt. Amery spent the last six months of the war in Northern Italy traveling from town to town speaking in public and on the radio.

  • John Amery met Benito Mussolini for the last time on April 23, 1945 in Milan. Mussolini offered him a commission in his 'Black Brigade' but Amery felt unable to accept explaining to him that he would not want to find himself in a position of having to fire on his countrymen. Instead, in a show of comradery and solidarity, he donned a Fascist uniform. It was these clothes he was wearing when captured by Italian Communists.

  • 'Betrayed by our government, undermined by communism, ours is an uphill fight against all the power of vast Jewish interests, but we must win it, we must achieve British freedom of action and thought. Germany and the world watches us, and it is the extent of our reaction, the extent to which we can justify to the world that we are British, and not the mercenaries and degenerate tools of American finance and Judeo-Communism, that will make or break us. Neither I nor Churchill can represent England, only what you do and how you act can be the determining factor to decide whether, betrayed, we intend to react and take our place in the lines of civilization, or whether we are a race played out, who accept foreign interference, foreign control, and who go forward to the loss of all we possess, because we have neither the courage nor the desire to preserve our heritage.'
