Suffer the Clock
From far-away South Africa, Octainium comes roaring back with a new album. This is more technical than their previous release and has a finely polished sound that sounds great at high volumes. The guitar work is top notch and is a page taken from the great old days of metal. The album has a lot of variety and is always melodic and catchy. The vocalist is extrememly diverse and easily handles various styles--ranging from death metal'ish to cleanly sung vocals. The songs 'Dethrone' ('Welcome to the rape and murder capital of Earth!') and 'Holier Than Thou' are my favorites of this twelve track release.
Suffer the Clock will be released on iTunes on August 29th. A CD will be released in early 2015, which will probably contain a bonus track or two.

[On a side note, since it's mentioned in a song, South Africa is known as the Rape Capital of the World. In 2012 almost 65,000 rapes were reported. But that's just the ones reported, it's estimated that up to 500,000 rapes occur each year. A dangerous thing, since 10% of all South Africans have AIDS (rapecrisis.org). 1 out of every 2 women is raped within her lifetime! Or how about 'corrective rape'?! This is where a gay person is raped to make them straight!
Or how about the trend and belief that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS!? Crazy huh? This insane belief only adds to the 60 children that are raped each day in South Africa. I've read reports of virgins being gang raped to cure men's AIDS. Even if this nutty belief were true, didn't anyone stop to think about that after the first guy the girl was no longer a virgin?! Insanity. Insanity. Insanity.]

Black Widow Tribute - King of the Witches
This tribute CD was released by an Italian label called 'Black Widow'--named such in honor of the band. Clive Jones contributes an interesting intro which shows his talent for creating atmosphere is still very much alive. Jones is an original band member of Black Widow and the main individual behind Black Widow's revival. Various bands do renditions here, but none of them really stand out besides Death SS, whom do a pretty cool rendition of Come to the Sabbat. Not for everyone, only hardcore fans would appreciate this.

Black Bleeding

A Bright Future
This CD-R is a review copy of an original release on cassette. I don't know anything about this band... but they are very impressive! Extremely catchy stuff. The first track 'A bright future' is amazingly cool sounding. I suppose you would class them as death metal, but definitely not your standard run-of-the-mill band. Musically the band fucking shreds! The songwriting and musicianship is top notch. Every song has its own sound, never leaving you bored. If you can get your hands on this you will not regret it. Incredible.

Glaukom Synod
[Above: front/inner]
Vampires and Gorgeous Throats
Also a CD-R review copy of a cassette release, Glaukom Synod are bizarre electronic industrial. Like all ambient/industrial music you have to be in the right mood for this. You have to be able to let the music take you into a trance like state. Only then can you really judge if it fulfills or falls short. First, how to describe this band? Well, it has a very insane and aggressive feel. Pounding electronic drums, unrelenting beats and odd sounds/samples give it flesh, while a sheer insanity are its soul. Its noisy, driving melodies are like a stabbing madness. It's something to behold, I think I may have lost my mind for a second or two while listening. Sanity is overrated anyway! I liked this and would really like to hear a track with some kind of vocals.
